Apply to be an Associate Prevention Professional (APP)

Application Process
Complete your APP application to become APP-certified.

Our application review process generally takes 1-2 months. Accepted applications need to be approved by the Prevention Specialist Certification Board of Washington (PSCBW) at a full board meeting.

Please use the current APP application below and follow the instructions contained in the application:

Please read and follow the directions carefully. The APP candidate portfolio/application packet is a PDF file. You will need Adobe Reader to save the document to your computer. If you need to download the free Adobe Reader, go to https://get.adobe.com/reader/. The application will be editable, so you can enter your information directly in Adobe Reader.

To pay by credit or debit card, please go to the Pay Online page (a processing fee may apply).

NOTE:  The APP is not eligible for reciprocity with the IC&RC. The APP certificate is issued for a two-year period and can be renewed for one additional two-year period.  An APP wanting to renew their APP status must show progress toward attaining the necessary ‘training’ and ‘work experience’ required to become a CPP. Following a renewal, an APP wishing to be certified in Washington State must apply for a CPP credential.  An APP can, however, submit an application to become a CPP at any time prior to renewal.

Examples of Acceptable Trainings

Potential applicants requested a listing of previously approved trainings/classes/courses that have been accepted. Please click the button above or download the guidelines below:

Please also note, in lieu of a certificate, the applicant may submit a completed Affidavit of Attendance (PDF). Until 6/30/2024, this affidavit may be used to submit a maximum of six (6) CEHs, such as in the case in which the conference/training sponsor did not provide a Certificate of Completion. The Eligibility Committee will review the completed Affidavit of Attendance forms to determine whether these hours will be accepted.

As of 7/1/2024, Affidavits of Attendance will no longer be accepted.
